Chandramukhi 2 Movie Synopsis: A rich family moves into the Vettaiyapuram palace to renovate their ancestral temple and perform a puja. But doing so might bring back the ghost of Chandramukhi, and let loose the cruel Vettaiyan, too.

Chandramukhi 2 Movie Review: In 2005, when P Vasu's Chandramukhi hit screens, horror comedies were novel to Tamil cinema, and with the film marking the return of Superstar Rajinikanth after a three-year sabbatical, it had a lot going for it. Now, 17 years later, horror comedy as a genre has almost reached its saturation point. This sequel is led by Raghava Lawrence, who built his stardom with another horror comedy franchise - the Kanchana films! So, how does that work out for this new film?

When the film begins, it almost feels like we have been taken back to the early 2000s on a time machine. We get a hero-introduction fight and song, something that has almost gone out of fashion these days. The comedy falls flat, and it is painful to watch the once-great Vadivelu's desperate attempts to inject humor into the scenes with his antics. The only bits that make us laugh are, sadly, the attempts that the film makes at drama. Like the scene where Raghava Lawrence makes a case for setting aside religious differences.

The plot does away with the progressive aspects that the first film had, thanks to it being an adaptation of the acclaimed Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu. While the ghost in the first film has everything to do with psychology, this one does away with that angle entirely and is content to be a standard issue pei padam, with mumbo jumbo about aatma and deiva shakti. The characters are merely archetypes, and the performances are strictly functional. Even a strong personality like Radikaa Sarathkumar just comes across as an ordinary presence because of weak character writing.

And yet, the film somehow manages to be not bad! Credit for this has to go to the smart manner in which P Vasu expands the backstory of Vettaiyan and Chandramukhi. These episodes, which form the major portions of the second half, build on the legend established in the first film. We see events that we have either heard about or witnessed as imaginary scenes in Chandramukhi play out as minor variations of what we know from the first film. Keeravani's music, too, mirrors this approach, capturing the spirit of Vidyasagar's work in the original. And while Kangana Ranaut and Raghava Lawrence may not match up to Rajinikanth, being stars in their own right, they manage to hold our attention with their screen presence. In the end, it turns out to be the kind of film that will mirror the mood the viewer is in. Those who just want a momentary diversion might find it passable while those looking for something more will feel underwhelmed.

Jinn Movie Reviews :

Puja Cherry is overacting everywhere, didn't expect such bad expression, I was hoping a lot from Shajal Noor Vaiya but he disappointed me, the story wasn't that good, and the most annoying part was those sound effects, it more looked like a drama than a cinema. and obviously not horrifying. and songs weren't expected after 2/3 scenes of starting and the lyrics are awful. people in the hall are laughing instead of horrifying. I wonder how Jazz media made this kind of film. We had so high expectations from them. People of our country are trying to support our film industry but they are giving us disappointment. if they continue this no one is going to watch Bangla movies anymore.

Story: Best buddies and wannabe ghostbusters, Major and Gullu, assisted by a bhatakti aatma Ragini, are out to offer salvation to the dead and gone. Their life takes an unexpected turn when they’re faced with an evil baba, jealous of their progress.

Review: Gullu and Major (Ishaan and Siddhant Chaturvedi), two single boys living together, aspire to become professional ghostbusters. With the assistance of friendly ghost, Ragini (Katrina Kaif), they somewhat succeed in doing so. But their journey hits a roadblock when they get pulled into Ragini’s larger plan to salvage her lover from the clutches of an evil baba, Aatmaram (Jackie Shroff).

Gurmmeet Singh’s Phone Bhoot, written by Ravi Shankaran and Jasvinder Singh Bath, is an eclectic, out-of-the-box comedy. It’s evident from the proceedings that the writers and the director have spent a considerable amount of time visualising every minute of the film, so it doesn’t lose its steam half-way into its runtime.

Reminiscent of films like Andaz Apna Apna, the characters take their situations and themselves very seriously. That paves the way for humour which is embedded neatly into the screenplay, is unabashed and character-led. References to old and some relatively new Hindi movies and kinky horror films of the bygone decades (Ramsay Brothers' films) are also stitched into the narrative seamlessly. The screenplay is peppered with dialogues that will ease you into this film’s crazy world and make you laugh through most parts.

Having said that, the film lags in terms of pace in the first half till Jackie Shroff’s entry into the mix. That changes the film’s gear for the better, but it also makes the eventual conflict in the second half somewhat predictable. There are minor but unmissable loopholes at a few junctures. The film also takes certain creative liberties which should have been avoided completely, and that would have made the narrative even more engaging and entertaining.

In the technical department, the film’s VFX, production design and prosthetics are perfectly synced with the narrative. The film has been edited well, but it could have been slicker. The songs are purely ornamental to the narrative here. Even though you don’t mind them, you don’t take them home with you.

Ishaan, Katrina and Siddhant have a cool camaraderie as the ghost-busting trio. The boys put out a confident performance. They’re the new-age version of Amar-Prem who don’t eat into each other’s screen-time or performances. They vibe with each other which is pleasant. The director has also ensured that the balance between their screen time and their overall presentation is maintained throughout the runtime.

Katrina Kaif is beautiful to look at. She makes it a point to ensure that her presence doesn't overpower the narrative; she establishes her bro-code with the boys, and delivers an effortless performance, playing on her strengths. Jackie Shroff is the tadka to this mix. He’s the seetimaar element of this comedy without whom the humour quotient of the film would not be where it is.

Overall, Gurmmeet Singh puts out a unique horror comedy which is a departure from most material one has seen in the year so far. For that itself this one deserves a visit to the theatre.

Shaitaan full movies reviwes:

Shaitaan is really a great and very good movie with such an engaging screenplay and soundtrack where the storyline is really interesting and deep and to shows never ever take if any stranger offers his laddu, pede, or his own water bottle. This movie gives that message but the Climax scene was really shocking and great to watch and the performance by R Madhavan as Vanraj was really brilliant and outstanding

He meets Ajay Devgan and his family in the dhaba and follows them up to their farmhouse and creates black magic on Janki bodiwala to control her and take her away where the screenplay is well written which is really unpredictable to watch this movie and the performance by Ajay Devgan was really great and Janki bodiwala in each every scene she just nailed it where even jyotika also nailed it and performance by angaad raaj was also good where it has no such supporting cast all are lead in the movie and movie has wholly shot in one house only. The direction by Vikas Behl was really great and the VFX and visuals are really amazing in the movie where the music and songs are really good and the soundtrack of Shaitaan was really goosebumps in every moment.. overall it's a great movie that could be darker but can be watched with family.
